Telecommunications: VoIP

Telecommunications has evolved from the telephone to VoIP. It is a decently new technology that allows you to use any computer or multiple computers as a telephone or as telephones. Telecommunications has been developing and making changes to VoIP since its introduction approximately ten years ago. They have had new laws and regulations that have forced some changes to this system and there have been numerous tests conducted that resulted in changes.

Telecommunications is now able to be used by simple purchasing a network setup, network card and cables, and possibly the internet, if you do not already own these and have access to the internet. By operating a business’s computers all networked together, VoIP allows companies to exchange information easily. They can speak to other people within the company and with the help of the internet, everyone in the world without expensive costs.

Companies pay their normal internet bill, which most companies today already have, and they can download VoIP software free of charge. The only charges that are incurred are those instituted by other countries. Some countries charge incoming and outgoing fees for Telecommunications other than the telephone. These fees can be very expensive or relatively inexpensive, but it depends on the country and their regulations of the fees for VoIP telecommunications.

However, unless the company makes several calls to these countries daily, it is probably still cheaper to institute VoIP telecommunications instead of long distance telecommunications from a regular telephone line. As many companies have learned, it is very expensive to use long distances services to call some foreign countries. So, before the company makes a decision on what type of telecommunications to choose, make sure the research has been completed on the pricing advantages of one over the other using statistical information on the areas that will be frequently called.

E-mail is a wonderful tool, but can never replace a person to person conversation. Whether it is face-to-face or through some form of telecommunications, client relationships are built on trust and personal feeling toward the person on the other end of the conversation. It is very difficult to promote feelings or to hear them through a computer. While e-mail is a wonderful way to exchange data and messages, it is less likely that you will gain a client or customer with this form of communication instead of telecommunications. People like to talk to other people, not machines. Some people like machines better, but not very many.

One of the major drawbacks to consider with this type of telecommunications is that if the electricity goes out, the company will not be able to make outgoing or accept incoming calls through this type of telecommunications. Since this runs through the company’s computer systems, if there is no electricity, the computers will not work. However, larger companies have back up generators to keep electricity flowing throughout the building, even if the rest of the electricity grid is out for any reason.

Another disadvantage of VoIP telecommunications is the problems with static in lines and echoing. Both of these are common complaints amount VoIP telecommunication users. These can be reduced by turning down the volume on your microphone, earpiece, or headset. If you do not reduce these small but very significant problems, you may ultimately end up with disconnected phone calls or be unable to receive any. When a customer calls in, they will get a busy signal which is always bad for business.

While all of these factors should be considered, VoIP is not going anywhere and should be considered when inquiring about telecommunication systems. It has many advantages that you cannot get through e-mail or telephone. But it also has small disadvantages, most of which are currently in the process of being fixed. Everyday VoIP telecommunications is improving and everyday someone else begins using this service for their own company or home.
